Habitat Builds

Family Bio

Rene, Shannon, Brendon and Cadence are truly a poster partner family for Habitat for Humanity. Born and raised in Winnipeg, this fun-loving couple met while working their first jobs, and soon built a loving relationship where family always comes first. However for so long, the dream of owning a home for themselves and their children has been far out of reach.

When their daughter Cadence was born five years ago, the couple decided it would be best for Shannon to be a stay-at-home mom. Unfortunately, with one income, combined with rising housing costs, the family was forced to live in a cramped two-bedroom apartment and turn their living room into a bedroom for their 16 year-old son.

In their current neighbourhood, Shannon constantly worries about the safety of her children and is hesitant to spend time with her daughter in nearby parks. Rene and Shannon both believe that owning a decent home where they feel safe, comfortable, and have room to grow, is the least they can hope to provide for their children.

The family has worked extremely hard for their Habitat home. Shannon volunteered on a Blitz Build where her good-hearted nature and can-do attitude allowed her to excel in a leadership role in the kitchen. Brendon worked alongside Shannon, where he proved to be a very willing, reliable and trustworthy volunteer.

After a long road of hard work and dedication, the dream of owning their own home is finally within their grasp, thanks to people like you.

Together, we can build a better Winnipeg.
